Decisions I didn’t Make During my Labour

Why didn’t I question the constant fetal monitoring, the breaking of my waters or the syntocinon (artificial oxytocin) drip to induce my contractions?  As an educated women in her late 20s who had attended the hospital’s own antenatal classes you’d think that I would have wanted to have a part in these decisions but the truth is I just went along with it.  I trusted the doctors and knew them to have more knowledge than me and to want the best outcome for me and my babies.  The thing is though, in a medicalised environment, do they always know what is best?

Beef Tacos

Beef Tacos

You do need a bit of time to make the sauce as it tastes better when the meat has been cooked for a few hours and so breaks down.  If you don’t have time in an afternoon to keep checking on it in a pan, you could try making it in a morning and leaving in the slow cooker on a low setting all day.

The Siblings Project {August 17}

We’re right in the middle of the summer holidays. I can’t believe how fast the first three weeks have gone and just like that I’ve waved the boys off at the airport today to spend the rest of their holidays in Italy.  They were so excited, Oliver was a bit more cuddly early this morning but absolutely fine when they left. I hope they will both be ok when Daddy comes home in a few days.  I’m more than ready to go and join them at the end of the month for a proper holiday!

Stuffed courgettes

Stuffed Courgettes

We’re having a bumper crop of courgettes at the minute thanks to some amazing sunny weather and lots of rain too. I’ve also had two rather large marrows because I missed them underneath all the huge leaves and didn’t go down to the vegetable patch for two days because of the rain.  I came up with this recipe and it worked really well, Oliver asked me as soon as he’d finished when i could make it again so I consider that a win!

The Siblings Project {July 17}

The photos I’m sharing this month are from Monday 19th June. The boys had an inset day and it was so hot. They begged me all afternoon to set up the hose pipe so they could run back and forward through the spray and here are a few shots!  Imagine the sound of them screaming and laughing and then having to go in to get their goggles from the swimming bag!

Teriyaki salmon

Teriyaki Salmon

My boys love this. We’re big fans of fish in this house and eat it at least twice a week.  Salmon and tuna are our favourites. This recipe is so simple. I like to make it at lunch time so it can marinade in the fridge for a few hours.  You can eat this with a stir fry with noddles or rice or why not try it with potatoes and green veg.

The Siblings Project {June 17}

The last few weeks have been jam packed for the boys. From class photos and a school trip to White Post farm to a full half term, including a day with Nana and Grandad, hair cuts, dentist visits, a day out with friends and our family trip to Legoland and then last week, Ethan’s surgery to have a raised mole removed.  I have quite a lot of different photos to share this month. I hope you enjoy looking through them and can tell they’ve had lots of fun together this month.

What I Wore on Holiday {Summer 17}

I love finding new outfits to wear on holiday. There’s something special about clothes that you wear only a few times in the summer, in an evening when you don’t have to cover them in layers to keep warm. I love dresses but I don’t really wear them often unless it’s a special occasion and this summer saw me wear my very first jumpsuit.

Lentil & quinoa salad

Lentil & Quinoa Salad

This is a really summery salad.  I love to make it for a summer’s evening barbecue or have it for a work lunch.  I eat it with a big spoon of houmous and beetroot salad.  It would also go great with some warm green veg such as green beans, spinach or tender stem broccoli.

The Siblings Project {May 17}

Last weekend we went to town, we went on the bus and met Matteo after he had finished his volunteering.  I said the boys could take some money from their money box as they had been given some by Matteo’s parents before they left.  Ethan spotted a Power Rangers scooter in TK Maxx so we said he could have it. There was only one but Oliver decided he wanted a Ninja Turtles one so the next day I found one on the Argos website, ordered it and we went to pick it up about an hour later.
