A Family Day Out at Sundown Adventureland

If you’re looking for a new place to have a family day out with your kids, then Sundown is the place to visit! Based near Retford in North Nottinghamshire, Sundown Adventureland is a theme park especially designed with children under ten years old in mind. With so many things to explore and amazing rides, you can guarantee a wonderful day. We were lucky to be invited to the park a few weeks ago. Here’s how we got on:

Sundown was recognised again this year in the 2021 Tripadvisor Travellers’ Choice awards which is an award given to businesses that consistently deliver fantastic experiences to visitors, and those that have earned positive reviews from customers on Tripadvisor over the last 12 months. Because of these reviews, Sundown is also listed in the top 10% of attractions worldwide which is an amazing achievement.

We entered the park and headed straight to the Jolly Pirate Boat Ride which is a small rapids ride. I don’t know how, but I ended up getting the wettest out of the three of us but thankfully it was such a nice day, I dried off quite quickly!

One of the boys’ favourite parts of the park was Smugglers Cove as well as Shotgun City. They spent a long time exploring the different rooms in Smugglers Cove and in Shotgun city they loved picking up the guns and discovering all the different areas of the Wild West Town as well as riding on the Rocky Mountain Train Ride.

Next we explored Lollipoppet Castle. It really smelt of sweets and chocolate. Again there was lots to see and interact with.

After that we worked our way round to Robin Hood’s Merry Adventure ride after a quick stop off to go the toilet and go on the giant bumpy slide in Crash Landings indoor soft play area. Crash Landings is amazing for small and bigger children with two huge soft play pens, slides, ball pit and more.

The place that we spent the most time in the park was the Angry Birds Activity Park. Opened in 2012, it was the first Angry Birds park in the UK. The boys spent ages on the main climbing frame and slides and they also enjoyed the Giddy Piggies and Okie Yolkie and Ostrich Safari rides.

Around the park there are lots of areas to sit and enjoy a picnic, as well as places to buy ice creams, snacks and hot food. There are three main cafes. There is also an indoor picnic area so you can take and enjoy your own food all year round.

We had an amazing day at Sundown. The weather definitely helped as it made it the perfect end of summer day out. I wish we had gone when the boys were younger as some of the rides were very tame for them and some of the interactive figures felt quite dated but I think they really enjoyed the day. All the areas were clean and it felt covid safe. We would certainly recommend the park to others and are so glad we got to visit before the boys are too old. Check out the website for details on special seasonal events like the Halloween Adventure and Christmas Spectacular.
